Hon’ble Chief Minister of West Bengal Mamata Banerjee inaugurates ‘JIS School of Medical Science & Research’ in Santragachi, Howrah

HNExpress Staff Reporter : Mamata Banerjee, Hon’ble Chief Minister of West Bengal remotely inaugurated the ‘JIS School of Medical Science, Research Centre & Hospital’ on July 24, 2023. JIS Group, a renowned educational conglomerate, in association with the Department of Health & Family Welfare, Government of West Bengal has started the ‘JIS School of Medical Science, Research Centre & Hospital’ in Santragachi, Howrah in Public-Private Partnership (PPP) mode.

Sardar Taranjit Singh, Managing Director, JIS Group and members of the Governing Board of JIS Group were present on the occasion. During the inauguration ceremony, several key dignitaries from the medical and educational sectors were also present, underscoring the widespread recognition and support garnered by this initiative.

The JIS Group had signed an MOU at the ‘Bengal Global Business Summit’ with the Department of Health & Family Welfare, Govt. of West Bengal, to establish the ‘JIS School of Medical Science, Research Centre & Hospital’ with a significant investment of Rs.1500 crores. JIS Group is committed to cater to healthcare and medical education in West Bengal.

In accordance with the approval accorded by the National Medical Council, the ‘JIS School of Medical Science, Research Centre & Hospital’ will offer admission to 150 students annually to its prestigious MBBS course, which will be effective from the academic year 2023-24.

The JIS management envisions the ‘JIS School of Medical Science, Research Centre & Hospital’ facility evolving into a state-of-the-art 1200-bed hospital spread across 30 acres, dedicated to serving the healthcare needs of the community. The ambitious expansion plan will encompass 20 blocks, each equipped with advanced medical facilities, aiming to provide exemplary medical care to the residents of Howrah district and the wider population of West Bengal. The project will be established under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model, with a total project cost of Rs. 1500 crores, showcasing the commitment of both the JIS Group and the Government of West Bengal to revolutionize healthcare and medical education in the region.

Speaking on the occasion, Sardar Taranjit Singh, Managing Director, JIS Group, expressed his vision for the institution, stating, “We are delighted to be a part of this transformative initiative in the field of medical education.
